Speaking at the start of the conference Rotary International - District 1910, which includes Rotary clubs from Croatia, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Slovenia, Croatian President Stjepan Mesić said in Zagreb on Friday that members of Rotary clubs contribute to the understanding of peace among people.
"Under the slogan 'Serving the Global Community' you provide unselfish assistance to those in need," said President Mesić, an honorary member of the Rotary Club Zagreb, addressing some 500 participants in the conference that was held in Zagreb's Westin Hotel.
"The fact that Rotary clubs had been banned by all totalitarian regimes speaks of the universal value of the Rotarian idea," President Mesić stressed. The president called on the participants to continue helping the community and thanked Rotary club members for helping spread the truth abut the Homeland War and for helping Croatia and Bosnia during the war.
