Croatian President Stjepan Mesić congratulated Asif Ali Zardari on his election as the president of Pakistan.
"I deeply hope that your assuming this difficult and responsible post will mark the beginning of better times for Pakistan, and that under your leadership your country will achieve the peace and stability so long wished for," President Mesić stated, adding that Croatia closely followed developments in Pakistan's region and highly appreciated Pakistan's role in overcoming conflicts and threats against global security there.
"I believe that only a resolute fight against the root causes of global terrorism -- poverty, underdevelopment and prejudices -- can contribute to world peace," Croatian President emphasized, voicing confidence that Croatia and Pakistan would continue to intensify their friendly relations.
