The President held a working meeting with Varteks management and afterwards with Vara\u017edin mayor Neven Bosilj and Vara\u017edin County prefect An\u0111elko Stri\u010dak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his statement to the media, President Milanovi\u0107 said that the reason for his visit to Vara\u017edin was above all Varteks, a company which is one of the few remaining success stories of the textile industry in Croatia. The President expressed hope that this would remain so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Government has included them on the list of strategic, priority projects. That is good because this kind of production, especially the more ambitious profit-making textile industry, simply cannot do without state aid, authorities and policies, and needs support,\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 told the press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have been to Vara\u017edin many times and I hope to come on the 30<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the liberation of the city, which took place on September 22, 1991. This is an important date in the military history of Croatia. A major part of the enemy\u2019s equipment was seized and this subsequently had a considerable influence on the liberating operations of the Croatian Army.
