The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 attended a special session of the Makarska Town Council, at which he extended congratulations to the town residents on the occasion of Municipal Day, telling them that their limitations are not great and commending them for having done a lot for their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the presentation of the mayor, who spoke about the urban problems of Makarska, President Milanovi\u0107 said: \u201cYou can do a lot and you have done a lot, as well as the generations before you, your mothers and your fathers, your predecessors. Of course, there are mistakes and of course not all is great. Of course, there are more exemplary places than Makarska, but there is always the consolation that someone else was more violent and greedy towards the environment. Go step by step, correct what is wrong, do what is right and you can\u2019t go wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President praised the current generation of Makarska citizens for being on the right track, emphasizing that they live in a small and relatively wealthy community with resources that are not unlimited, but they are plentiful, so there is no reason for not having an excellent quality of life. \u201cLife is good now and that is not thanks to any political party, but thanks to the generation of your ancestors,\u201d underscored President Milanovi\u0107, adding that it is not enough to know how to create something for oneself, but also how to preserve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTake the money from the EU funds and be greedy within the rules, take everything. That is five billion annually, and of those five billion, almost three billion were earmarked for agriculture, social measures, you have nothing of that. It\u2019s nothing, it\u2019s little and that whole model is the way it is, with limits. This will not radically change us and has not changed any European country, i.e. it has not moved it from the position of lagging behind the richest countries that devised the model. That model is primarily for their benefit, this is a fact that you have to accept,\u201d said the President. He stressed that we will have to rely mostly on our own strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot to live off rental income, but to educate yourself for more complex things. So, take decisive steps forward in order not to do damage and for things to again change,\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the special session of the Makarska Town Council apart from President Milanovi\u0107 were President of the Town Council Gordana Muhti\u0107, Mayor of Makarska Zoran Paunovi\u0107, Mayor of Plo\u010de on behalf of the mayors of the sister cities of the town of Makarska Mi\u0161o Krsti\u010devi\u0107, envoy of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Deputy Split-Dalmatia County Prefect Ante \u0160o\u0161i\u0107, and envoy of the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament and Member of the Croatian Parliament Jure Brkan. Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Muli\u0107 was alongside President Milanovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
