On the occasion of the observance of the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the 204th<\/sup> Croatian Army Brigade and the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the Battle of Vukovar, the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanovi\u0107 presented at a ceremony in the Office of the President extraordinary promotions to active duty military personnel who took part in the defense of Vukovar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For outstanding services in the Homeland War and in the defense of the Republic of Croatia, Brigadier General \u017deljko \u017divanovi\u0107 was extraordinarily promoted to the rank of Major General in the military intelligence branch. Lieutenant Colonel Goran Seren\u010de\u0161 was extraordinarily promoted to the rank of Colonel in the liaison unit for outstanding services in the Homeland War and in the defense of the Republic of Croatia. Lieutenant Colonel Mile Skukan was extraordinarily promoted to the rank of military police Colonel. Major Marin Ivankovi\u0107 was extraordinarily promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the technical services unit. Master Sergeant Miroslav Knebl was extraordinarily promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation of Vukovar defenders, led by the former commander of the 204th<\/sup> Croatian Army Brigade, retired Colonel Branko Borkovi\u0107, did not include Colonel Seren\u010de\u0161, who was justifiably absent because of his participation in the SHAPE NATO Allied Command Operations in Mons, Belgium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHeroes of Vukovar, there are a few of you. Just as there were a few of you thirty years ago. Exceptionally, so the law says, extraordinary promotions are given in exceptional circumstances, only to exceptional people. These promotions would not have been given to you, who thirty years ago were there where it was incomparably the most difficult, had Colonel Branko Borkovi\u0107 Jastreb not proposed so. This is above all thanks to him and his initiative. The decision and gratitude were mine \u2013 from the heart,\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 said in his address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emphasizing that the defenders of Vukovar who received promotions were there, where it was the most difficult, President Milanovi\u0107 concluded: \u201cThe Croatian state has not forgotten you. Admittedly, there was an incentive outside the system, but justice was served. I wish you all the best. Some of you will work for a while longer, some will probably retire in a dignified way; you will not be driven off. Thank you again for what you have done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion of the observance of the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the 204th<\/sup> Croatian Army Brigade and the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the Battle of Vukovar, the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanovi\u0107 also issued Decisions on bestowing decorations upon the defenders of Vukovar, which will be presented at a later date. The Order of Duke Domagoj with Ribbon was posthumously awarded to Zvonimir Bra\u010di\u0107, Ivan Brdar and Velimir \u0110erek for bravery and heroism they have displayed in the Homeland War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following defenders of Vukovar were awarded the Order of Nikola \u0160ubi\u0107 Zrinski for a deed of valour in the Homeland War: Robert Alvir (missing in action), Ivica Arbanas, Sanja Arbanas, Ivica Bano\u017ei\u0107, Stanislav Bartolovi\u0107 (posthumously), Sini\u0161a Cvijan, Dra\u017een \u010covi\u0107, \u017deljko Deli\u0107 (posthumously), Dra\u017een \u0110urovi\u0107, Jasna Edl-\u0160piljar, Anto Ga\u0161i\u0107 (posthumously), Petar Gojun, Zdenko Horvat, Marin Ivankovi\u0107, Ivica Jakovljevi\u0107, Sini\u0161a Jak\u0161evac, Stjepan Kati\u0107 (posthumously), Zlatko Kova\u010di\u0107, Damir Kr\u0161i\u0107, Ilija Marti\u0107, Darko Mihaljevi\u0107, Zoran Milas, Suzana Pejnovi\u0107, Tomislav Plav\u0161i\u0107, Nenad Sinkovi\u0107 (posthumously).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For extraordinary successful command of units of the Croatian Armed Forces and for extraordinary military services in their organization and development, the Order of Ban Jela\u010di\u0107 was presented to Drago Ad\u017eaga, Ivan An\u0111eli\u0107, Marinko Babi\u0107, Mirko Brekalo, Kre\u0161o Brnas, Nikola Buri\u0107, Marko Cvitkovi\u0107, Zvonko \u010cukelj (posthumously), Ivan \u0106uri\u0107, Vladimir \u0110uki\u0107 (posthumously), Marko Filkovi\u0107, Zoran Gotal (posthumously), Zoran Gruber (posthumously), Zlatko Horvat (posthumously), \u017deljko Juki\u0107, Antun Juri\u0107, Viktorin Juri\u0107, Petar Ka\u010di\u0107 (posthumously), Franjo Kra\u010dak (posthumously), Stjepan Kuli\u0107, Marinko Leko, Sini\u0161a Mataija (posthumously), Zvonko Milas, Julije Novak, Zdenko Novak, Juraj Njavro (posthumously), Vlado O\u0161ust, Ivan Poljak (posthumously), Drago Skoko, Zoran \u0160ipo\u0161 (posthumously), Josip Toma\u0161i\u0107 (posthumously), Adorjan Toth (posthumously), Vladimir Urban (missing in action), Vinko \u017dani\u0107 and \u017deljko \u017divanovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an honourable sign of the eternal memory of those who died for the Croatian state in war, the Order of Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsto Frankopan with Gilded Interlace was posthumously awarded to Mirko Vagenhofer. The Order of the Croatian Trefoil was bestowed upon Michael Geu\u0161i\u0107, Josip Ki\u0161 (posthumously) and Zvonimir Petri\u0107 for extraordinary services to the Republic of Croatia in a state of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attending the ceremony alongside the President of the Republic were the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Admiral Robert Hranj, Head of the Office of the President of the Republic Orsat Miljeni\u0107, State Secretary in the Ministry of Croatian Veterans\u2019 Affairs \u0160piro Janovi\u0107, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defense and National Security Dragan Lozan\u010di\u0107, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Marekovi\u0107 and Mayor of Vukovar Ivan Penava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
