{"id":15218,"date":"2022-02-01T14:09:31","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T13:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.predsjednik.hr\/?post_type=news&#038;p=15218"},"modified":"2022-02-01T14:09:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T13:09:33","slug":"president-milanovic-receives-international-junior-science-olympiad-medal-winners","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.predsjednik.hr\/en\/news\/president-milanovic-receives-international-junior-science-olympiad-medal-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"President Milanovi\u0107 Receives International Junior Science Olympiad Medal Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 has received today at the Office of the President pupils who won medals at the 18<sup>th<\/sup> International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) and their mentors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Junior Science Olympiad was organized from the United Arab Emirates on 12-21 December 2021 in hybrid form, with 290 pupils from 59 countries taking part in the competition. Participants solved tasks in their home countries and pupils from Croatia won two silver and four bronze medals. The silver medal winners are Karlo Ahel from the Andrija Mohorovi\u010di\u0107 Gymnasium in Rijeka and Roko Mari\u0107 from the Fifteenth Gymnasium in Zagreb. The bronze medal winners are Ema Novak from the Josip Slavenski Gymnasium in \u010cakovec, Kim Rade\u0161i\u0107 from the Pula Gymnasium, Luka Duplan\u010di\u0107 from the Fifteenth Gymnasium in Zagreb and Karlo Domijan from the First Su\u0161ak Croatian Gymnasium in Rijeka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pupils prepared for the competition at the departments of chemistry, physics and biology of the University of Zagreb\u2019s Faculty of Science. The mentors who selected and trained the pupils, arranged laboratories and translated assignments for the competition are all employees of the Faculty of Science: Tajana Begovi\u0107, Danijel Namjesnik, Andreja Luci\u0107, Petra Cvjetko, Karolina Matejak Cveni\u0107 and Kre\u0161o Zadro. The students of the Faculty of Science assisted the mentors during the competition and in organizing the pupils\u2019 free time. The pupils\u2019 participation in the Olympiad was financed by the Ministry of Science and Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Junior Science Olympiad medal winners also talked with President Milanovi\u0107 about their future education plans and all of them expressed the desire to enrol in university study programmes in Croatia. President Milanovi\u0107 extended his support to the pupils in their intention to stay in Croatia and contribute to scientific development with their knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attending the meeting together with the International Junior Science Olympiad medal winners were the pupils\u2019 mentors Kre\u0161o Zadro, Andreja Luci\u0107 and Tajana Begovi\u0107.
