The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 attended today a special session of the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Zagreb celebrating its 60th<\/sup> anniversary this year. President Milanovi\u0107 congratulated the professors and employees on Faculty Day and told them to be strict and uncompromising researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wish that you search painstakingly for the truth because the fact that your faculty was founded only in 1962 was not accidental, and it was the first one. Time was needed for society, not to mature, but to develop in a certain direction and for what you do to become an indispensable discipline\u201d, President Milanovi\u0107 stated in his address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPolitical scientists are the most literate there is, they are the product of this Faculty\u201d, the President added and welcomed the reduction in the number of students enrolled at the Faculty of Political Science. As for the possibility of Croatian students studying abroad from the first year, he said it has its pros and cons. \u201cOn the one hand it ended the proliferation of private schools that as a rule have no quality because they are founded just for the sake of the market and those that survived have a value. For our children to go abroad from the first year is not good. All the knowledge, all the literacy and all the sources that are needed exist here\u201d, President Milanovi\u0107 noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his address President Milanovi\u0107 referred to the state of the Croatian media that he compared to journalism of thirty years ago. He stated that the Faculty of Political Science \u201ccannot be responsible for the catastrophic state of the Croatian media\u201d. \u201cOnce you knew where you could stop. Things were passed over in silence, we pretended to be dead, the Party was in full control. However, there wasn\u2019t so much glare, so many unbelievable fabrications and interpretations available to all. Today it is necessary to know what to read, what to follow and to be terribly critical\u201d, President Milanovi\u0107 stated in concluding his address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the special session the Dean\u2019s award was bestowed upon the best students and recognitions to retired Faculty professors and employees. Speaking at the ceremony in addition to President Milanovi\u0107 were the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science Andrija Hrenjak, the Rector of the University of Zagreb Stjepan Laku\u0161i\u0107, the Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Toma\u0161evi\u0107, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Education and delegate of the Prime Minister Ivica \u0160u\u0161ak and the Member of the European Parliament and delegate of the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Sun\u010dana Glavak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accompanying President Milanovi\u0107 were the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka \u017darkovi\u0107 and the Special Adviser to the President for the Economy Velibor Ma\u010dki\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
