The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 received today members of the \u201cFilip Devi\u0107\u201d Cultural Society of Railroaders from Split, who are celebrating the 50th<\/sup> anniversary of the women\u2019s \u201cFilip Devi\u0107\u201d klapa <\/em>chorus and the 60th<\/sup> anniversary of the men\u2019s \u201cFilip Devi\u0107\u201d klapa <\/em>chorus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The representatives of the \u201cFilip Devi\u0107\u201d Cultural Society of Railroaders from Split informed President Milanovi\u0107 at the meeting about their activities since the Society\u2019s inception, saying that in 1950, when the Society was founded, it had a drama group, a brass band, a cycling section and a reciting section. In the late \u201850s, a folklore section, an orchestra and a large men\u2019s chorus were formed. Throughout the years, some ten thousand members were active in the Society and there are presently about 200 active members, the delegation said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men\u2019s klapa<\/em> chorus was founded in the early \u201860s and the women\u2019s chorus was founded in the early \u201870s. In February of this year, they held a gala concert at the Croatian National Theater in Split. The delegation pointed out that the women\u2019s klapa<\/em> continuously participates in the Omi\u0161 Dalmatian Klapa Festival competition and many international festivals. The men\u2019s klapa<\/em> chorus, said the delegation, is one of the oldest active klapa<\/em> choruses that regularly participate in all major klapa<\/em> events. The men\u2019s klapa <\/em>chorus has won numerous awards, notably the Award of the City of Split and the recognition of the Omi\u0161 Dalmatian Klapa Festival for its special contribution to the promotion of Dalmatian klapa<\/em> singing. The men\u2019s klapa <\/em>chorus has performed at home and abroad in a number of European countries, as well as in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the women\u2019s and the men\u2019s \u201cFilip Devi\u0107\u201d klapa<\/em> chorus held short performances of well-known klapa <\/em>compositions in the Office of the President. The klapa <\/em>performers included Ivana Smoljanovi\u0107, Anita Perkovi\u0107, Silvana Zeli\u0107, Deni Dmitrovi\u0107, Vedrana Ugrin, Ivana Buljan, Jadranka Jerkovi\u0107, Jasminka Jura\u0161in and Jasminka Najev (female members), and Branko Tomi\u0107, Bo\u017eo Rogulji\u0107, Denis Radi\u0107 Lima, Edi Duplan\u010di\u0107, Neno Grubi\u0107, Berislav Brali\u0107, Toni Veldi\u0107, Damir Grubi\u0161i\u0107 and Ivica Jaman (malemembers). Apart from klapa<\/em> members, the Honorary Society President Vesna Podlipec, Society President Ton\u0107i Kova\u010d, Vice President Maja Frapporti Rogli\u0107 and Secretary Ante Juki\u0107 attended the meeting with President Milanovi\u0107. President Milanovi\u0107 was accompanied by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Muli\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
