\u201cIn the past several years we have witnessed major changes occurring before our eyes. We are aware of them and understand them to a certain extent, but not fully. We are a small country whose path was unique, no other European Union member state has had such a path. Our experience teaches us to be smart, prudent and cautious. I advocate and will continue advocating common sense, cooperation, but also skepticism about big words that concern important things and events. What is important to us is to organize life in the country in which we live, which we build and protect, and which is the only country we have and the only one we care about,” the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanovi\u0107 stated at an official reception on the occasion of Croatian Armed Forces Day \u2013 Croatian Army Day and the 32nd<\/sup> anniversary of the formation of the Croatian Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addressing the gathering, President Milanovi\u0107 talked about relations with neighbouring countries saying we can\u2019t choose or change them. \u201cWith our neighbours we should try to develop, in good faith, the best possible relations. We have to respect them, sometimes be tolerant and lenient, and be aware of Croatia\u2019s situation in relation to them \u2013 and that situation is better, not superior, not overpowering, not haughty, but simply more favourable\u201d, he noted. He finished by saying that we should stay one’s own master, on our territory and in our heads\u201d. He is confident that our country \u201cfrom year to year will be stronger and stronger, more independent, but never shut itself off completely\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the official reception held in the Office of the President of the Republic, President Milanovi\u0107 conferred decorations, promotions and commendations on members of the Croatian Armed Forces. For demonstrated prowess and valour in the Homeland War the Order of Duke Domagoj with Ribbon is conferred on Colonel Ivica Kranj\u010devi\u0107. For a heroic act in the Homeland War the Order of Nikola \u0160ubi\u0107 Zrinski is conferred on Lieutenant Colonel \u017deljko Javorovi\u0107 and Sergeant Major Dario Vuko\u0161i\u0107.For outstanding merit for the Republic of Croatia in war and extraordinary circumstances in peace the Order of the Croatian Trefoil is conferred on Sergeant Major Miroslav Knebl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For outstanding contribution to the development and standing of the Republic of Croatia and the well-being of its citizens the Order of the Croatian Interlace is conferred on: Lieutenant Colonel Ton\u0107i Ara\u010di\u0107, Commander Sr\u0111an Bili\u0107, Lieutenant Colonel Josip Grani\u0107, Commander Robert Radi\u0107, Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Zorica, Lieutenant Commander Tomislav Jadri\u0107, Lieutenant Commander Alen Mari\u0107, Captain Dominik Jerini\u0107, Sergeant Major Mirjana Magi\u0107, Sergeant Major Davor Pavlovi\u0107, Master Sergeant \u017deljko Hrabar, Master Sergeant Miroslav Kri\u017eanovi\u0107, Sergeant First Class \u017dan Marsel Bu\u0161i\u0107, Staff Sergeant Dra\u017een Petrinec, Sergeant Military Specialist Zoran Bakovi\u0107 and  civil servant Nikola Marovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eight Lieutenant Colonels, including two women and six men, are promoted to the rank of Colonel: Petar \u010culo, Milko Ignac, Renato Paradi, Joso \u0160arlija, Ivica Tekli\u0107, Vinka Tekli\u0107, Tanja Topol and Dragutin Tu\u0161ek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of twelve first officer\u2019s ranks are conferred on CAF members, i.e. the rank of Second Lieutenant is conferred on twelve CAF members including six women and six men. Six CAF members receive commendations. For outstanding above-average results in carrying out assigned tasks, commendations of the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief are given to: Colonel Dra\u017een Batrnek, Major Marijan \u017dukina, Master Sergeant Snje\u017eana Gr\u010di\u0107, Master Sergeant Vesna Kunovi\u0107, Master Sergeant Ivica Maru\u0161i\u0107 and Sergeant First Class Radovil Veki\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colonel Ivica Kranj\u010devi\u0107 gave a thank you speech on behalf of the decorated, promoted and commended members of the Croatian Armed Forces. His speech highlighted that recognition for one\u2019s work gives a sense of value, pride and joy to each person that invested knowledge, abilities and efforts. \u201cRecognition and commendation touch the subjective part of our personality, bringing us closer to the objective part that reflects what we should be. Success and recognition serve as strong motivation to continue our dedicated work\u201d, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attending the reception in the Office of the President were the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Admiral Robert Hranj, the Deputy Chief of the GS of the CAF  Lieutenant Colonel Sini\u0161a Jurkovi\u0107, Commander of the Croatian Army Lieutenant General Boris \u0160eri\u0107, Commander of the Croatian Navy Rear Admiral Ivo Raffanelli, Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defense Brigadier General Michael Kri\u017eanec, Commander of Support Command Lieutenant General Mladen Fuzul, Commanders and Officers of the CAF, the Director of the Security and Intelligence Agency Daniel Marki\u0107, the Chairperson of the Croatian Parliament\u2019s Defense Committee Franko Vidovi\u0107, the Chief Fire Officer Slavko Tucakovi\u0107, Military Ordinary Msgr. Jure Bogdan as well as many other guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside President Milanovi\u0107 were the Head of the Office of the President Orsat Miljeni\u0107, the Adviser to the President for Defense Ivica Oluji\u0107, the Adviser to the President for National Security Dragan Lozan\u010di\u0107, the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicari\u0107, the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka \u017darkovi\u0107, the Special Adviser to the President for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Marekovi\u0107, and the Head of the Military and National Security Cabinet of the Office of the President Rear Admiral Predrag Stipanovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
