The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 held a meeting today with representatives of the Department of the Chakavian Council Korni\u0107, an association whose main goal is the preservation, development and restoration of traditional and any other form of culture that enriches life on the island of Krk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Department of the Chakavian Council Korni\u0107 celebrated the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of the Korni\u0107 Summer School of Glagolitic Script, which was held under the patronage of the President of the Republic on 31 July in the large hall of the Krk Town Council. After thanking President Milanovi\u0107 for his patronage, representatives of the Department of the Chakavian Council Korni\u0107 \u2013 President Damir Kremeni\u0107, Treasurer Sandra Sekuli\u0107, Secretary Gordana Drpi\u0107 and Summer School of Glagolitic Script lecturers Lovro Krsnik and Janja \u017dic \u2013 informed President Milanovi\u0107 about the association\u2019s main activities. In addition to organizing the aforementioned summer schools, the association also maintains and enriches the Korni\u0107 Regional Ethnographic Collection, known as the Etno ku\u0107a<\/em>, which boasts 1,500 artefacts, and the work of the Frankopan Reading Room, which has some 5,000 books and other collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also discussed the importance of preserving the Glagolitic script, and the delegation of the Department of the Chakavian Council informed President Milanovi\u0107 about a number of other events that have taken place for years to that end: Korni\u0107 museum nights, Fe\u0161ta od presnaca <\/em>(local cuisine festival), Dan od ku\u0107e – ro\u0111endan muzeja <\/em>(museum anniversary event), Misec hrvackoga libra<\/em> na Korni\u0107 <\/em>and \u201c\u010cA\u201d \u010ditalnica <\/em>(public readings of Chakavian texts). Furthermore, the association published collections of Chakavian writings and poetry, as well as books about folk costumes and the oldest chapel of Duba\u0161nica in the village of Kremeni\u0107i. After holding several exhibits entitled \u017diva glagoljica otoka Krka<\/em> [Living Glagolitic script of the island of Krk], the publication of a catalogue on the Glagolitic phenomena of the island of Krk is in the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Glagolitic movement in Croatia began in Zagreb in the late eighties and in 1993 the first Korni\u0107 Summer School of Glagolitic Script, widely recognized in Croatia and abroad, was launched. New schools were subsequently established in Punat, Vrh, Bogovi\u0107i, Omi\u0161alj and Vrbnik, following the school in Korni\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Milanovi\u0107 was accompanied by the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Culture Zdravko Zima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
