{"id":26765,"date":"2023-11-08T15:07:16","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T14:07:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.predsjednik.hr\/?post_type=news&#038;p=26765"},"modified":"2023-11-08T15:07:17","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T14:07:17","slug":"president-milanovic-the-university-of-zagreb-is-a-good-university","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.predsjednik.hr\/en\/news\/president-milanovic-the-university-of-zagreb-is-a-good-university\/","title":{"rendered":"President Milanovi\u0107: The University of Zagreb is a good university"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe University of Zagreb is a good university,\u201d the President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 said today at a formal session of the University Senate, which took place on the occasion of the Day of the University of Zagreb \u2013 \u201cDies Academicus.\u201d Recalling that he himself graduated from the University of Zagreb and then studied abroad, President Milanovi\u0107 particularly highlighted the quality of professors at the University of Zagreb, saying that all his professors at the time could teach at similar schools and universities abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe set-up of the University is another issue, that\u2019s where we\u2019re catching up. We\u2019re catching up to those who are the best, strongest and of the highest quality. Things haven\u2019t changed much here in recent centuries; the parts were cast long ago. Everyone goes their own way and great success stories are rare,\u201d said the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President spoke about the importance of literacy and pointed out that literacy has always been an enormous advantage. \u201cThe one who was literate was always a fatal step ahead of the one who was illiterate,\u201d said President Milanovi\u0107, telling those present that we should be satisfied with the University of Zagreb\u2019s present-day ranking. \u201cLet\u2019s be aware that this University is ranked well. Because, when you look at those rankings, they show that above the University of Zagreb are those universities that, as a rule, are difficult to compare with,\u201d said President Milanovi\u0107, explaining that those universities have more money, experience and tradition than us, which makes it irrational for us to set their attainment level as our own goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo this is a happy medium. If we convince ourselves and accept the fact that we can get to a certain point and get the best out of it, that we can compare ourselves to Cambridge, without basing our value on this, we will be fine. We will move on and use European funds,\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also speaking at the formal session of the Senate of the University of Zagreb, apart from President Milanovi\u0107, were the Rector of the University of Zagreb Stjepan Laku\u0161i\u0107, President of the Student Council of the University of Zagreb Ivona Josipovi\u0107, President of the Croatian Rectors\u2019 Conference Dragan Ljuti\u0107, Vice President of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) and delegate of the President of HAZU Academician Frano Para\u0107, Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Toma\u0161evi\u0107, State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Education and delegate of the Prime Minister Ivica \u0160u\u0161ak, and Member of the Croatian Parliament and delegate of the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Vesna Bedekovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Milanovi\u0107 was accompanied by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka \u017darkovi\u0107 and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy Velibor Ma\u010dki\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n<!--GALLERY BLOCK-->\n<div
