The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 welcomed students and their mentors to the Office of the President today, recognizing their outstanding performance at this year\u2019s European RoboCupJunior competition, held from 13-16 June in Hanover, Germany. The young Croatian roboticists achieved remarkable results, winning four first places, one second place, and four third places, totalling nine medals. Additionally, they received three special awards for the best poster, best technical solution, and best special solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President of the Republic congratulated all the participants of the competition, especially the award winners, who then presented their award-winning projects to him. Additionally, the robot football players who won the gold medal demonstrated their skills by \u201cplaying\u201d football in the Office of the President. These two robot football players, equipped with cameras and sensors to track the ball, took two years to develop and are entirely Croatian designs, as their creators proudly noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the meeting, mentors led by \u017deljko Posavec informed President Milanovi\u0107 about the competition, highlighting the achievements and successes of the awarded students. They explained that this year\u2019s robotics competition was the fifth edition, featuring over 400 competitors organized into 140 teams from 21 European countries. Young roboticists from various parts of Croatia, including Bol, Oto\u010dac, Karlovac, Koprivnica, Vara\u017edin, and Zagreb, represented the country. The mentors emphasized that the competition allows participants to expand and deepen their knowledge of robotics trends and development each year. However, they also mentioned that they lack the financial resources to build large robots, so they focus on creating smaller ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RoboCupJunior is a project-oriented educational programme designed for students up to 19 years old. It aims to expand their knowledge in a workshop environment, stimulating curiosity and bridging the gap with technology. The programme emphasizes collective problem-solving, leveraging diverse skills and knowledge. The competition features three main challenges: rescue, football, and stage dancing. In the \u201crescue\u201d challenge, robots tackle problems and navigate obstacles within a simulated disaster scenario. In the \u201cfootball\u201d challenge, autonomous robots compete by mimicking football gameplay. The \u201cstage dancing\u201d challenge showcases robots in costumes, dancing or interacting with people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to mentor \u017deljko Posavec, the meeting was attended by student mentors Nina Re\u0111ep, Ivica Kolari\u0107, Ivan Kolari\u0107, Jelka Hrnji\u0107, Marko Pongrac, Marija Bencun, Boris Tonc, Maja Tre\u0161\u010dec, Ana Cvitani\u0107, Lucija \u0160pacal, Ana Obradovi\u0107, and \u017deljko Stankovi\u0107 \u0160prajc. Competitors Juraj Kolari\u0107, Karla Klepe\u017e, Jelena Grozdani\u0107, Ivan Perko, Marin Majdand\u017ei\u0107, David Pongrac, Luka Kolari\u0107, Marin Ro\u0111ak, Dorian Pani\u0107, Bruno Mareti\u0107, Nino Petek, Jan Rid\u017eak, Sven Rid\u017eak, Vinka Fri\u0161tek, Barbara Prutki, Patricija Radikovi\u0107, Leon Ro\u0111ak, Petar Kukec, Filip Melnjak, Jan Va\u0161ak, Franko Prikratki, David \u017dupani\u0107, Jurica Ceglec, Gregor Klari\u0107, Marija O\u0161trkapa, Ivan Ki\u0161\u0107ek, Ena Re\u0111ep, Tia Sudec, Zara Jak\u0161i\u0107, Eva Jak\u0161i\u0107, Celina Mar\u010di\u0107, Miriam Cvitani\u0107, Maksim Stankovi\u0107 \u0160prajc, Oskar Stankovi\u0107 \u0160prajc, Leon Tonc, Matija Novak, Andrija Novak, Nikola Novak, Gabrijel Kralji\u0107, and Nik\u0161a Vaupoti\u0107, along with their parents, were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Milanovi\u0107 was accompanied by Jadranka \u017darkovi\u0107, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
