The President of the Republic Zoran Milanovi\u0107 attended today\u2019s ceremonial session of the \u010cazma Municipal Council, held on the occasion of \u010cazma Municipal Day and the feast of St. Mary Magdalene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his address, President Milanovi\u0107 called for the maximum use of European Union funds. \u201cEU money is there to be spent, and whatever is not used is a loss,\u201d he stressed, adding: \u201cEvery euro offered by the EU should be used because tomorrow it might no longer be available.\u201d As an example of good practice, he cited the Bjelovar spa project, calling it \u201can excellent initiative, as under normal circumstances it is not the kind of project that should be financed by the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the challenges facing the European Union, the President underlined that the energy sector and high technologies are areas in which the EU \u201cmust strengthen its competitiveness.\u201d However, he reminded those present that his primary responsibility is \u201cto answer to the citizens of Croatia and the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Milanovi\u0107 also commented on the upcoming military parade in Zagreb, emphasizing that it is an opportunity to recall the truth about Croatia\u2019s struggle for independence. \u201cWhen, in a few days, at the military parade in Zagreb, alongside Croatian soldiers and Croatian equipment, soldiers from NATO countries march as well, we must remember that our victory\u2014the victory won in our name\u2014was achieved by those who fought for us, and no one else but we ourselves.\u201d He warned against attempts to diminish Croatia\u2019s role in its own defense and statehood, stressing that \u201cothers were merely passive supporters and, very often, an active obstacle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe victory is solely Croatia\u2019s and no one else\u2019s; no one else contributed to it, and we owe nothing to anyone,\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 declared. He emphasized the importance of maintaining awareness of Croatia\u2019s own history, independence, and pride in the achievements of its citizens and defenders. He added that he does not intend to impose this awareness on others, but for him, it remains essential and unquestionable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, President Milanovi\u0107 highlighted the need for Croatia to strengthen its independence, including financial independence, as this was\u2014he said\u2014the fundamental goal of the struggle for the Croatian state: \u201cIt is important that something tangible remains\u2014a monument, something beautiful and useful\u2014if it cannot be invested directly in things that guarantee Croatia money, prosperity, and independence from others and from foreign funds. That was what Croatia fought for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from President Milanovi\u0107, speakers at the ceremonial session included Slavko Grgi\u0107, Mayor of the Town of Otok; Silvestar \u0160tefovi\u0107, President of the County Assembly of Bjelovar-Bilogora County; Darijo Hrebak, Mayor of Bjelovar; and Marko Maru\u0161i\u0107, Bjelovar-Bilogora County Prefect and delegate of the Speaker of Parliament and the Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Milanovi\u0107 was accompanied by his Adviser for Human Rights and Civil Society, Melita Muli\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
