The President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanovi\u0107 presented decorations to members of the \u2018Tigers\u2019 First Guards Brigade and to members of the Special Police Unit Rakitje of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia, on their 30th<\/sup> anniversary of formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a ceremony held at the Office of the President of the Republic, President Milanovi\u0107 said that today, thirty years after those difficult, glorious events in which very few people participated, we can slowly begin to seek closure, but without ever forgetting what took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs in any great trouble, when people are seized with fear, disbelief, and when they do not know what to do, then in those days, weeks and months, and every time such anxiety possesses people, the fate of the majority depends on a small number of people \u2013 a few good people,\u201d said the Croatian President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt that time, Croatia was practically being protected by people who were brave and bold enough, uncompromising and who did not allow themselves to be frightened. You were among those people. So thank you once again to all of you who are alive and a big, lasting thank you, from the heart, goes to all those who are no longer with us. Croatia will never forget them and has never forgotten them,\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 exclaimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President said that Croatia is a small but proud European country. \u201cWe know our limitations and capabilities, but we also have our plans, ambitions and dreams. We dream of success, peace and stability. We dream of good chances for a peaceful and calm life for our families, for ourselves and our nation,\u201d said President Milanovi\u0107. In his address, he also mentioned neighbouring countries with which we are trying to build normal and quality relations despite, as he put it, some minor misunderstandings. \u201cAnd so it will be in the future. The rules are clear, the standards apply to everyone. We do not wish to harm anyone. We do not dream or rejoice in anyone\u2019s failure. We are only asking for that little bit of respect and, if you will, understanding, which is the basic precondition for people to live together and agree on things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are the only society in Europe that can describe itself as a generation that went through war \u2013 some, like you, have experienced it directly, but all Croatian citizens went through war indirectly. There is no other country in Europe that has experienced this, except for our neighbour, the destroyed, devastated and humiliated country of Bosnia and Herzegovina,\u201d said President Milanovi\u0107, emphasizing once again that after thirty years the time has come to seek closure. \u201cIt does not mean end or oblivion. It means turning to the present that is not great. You are all wearing masks and that\u2019s good. That is how we should continue, but we have to go through this crisis as humans, with a healthy mind and common sense \u2013 by not being intimidated, or insecure, more than any person should be, and by being aware that we are part of one huge puzzle where we do not, as individuals, have that much influence.\u201d President Milanovi\u0107 ended his address with the verses from the song of the \u2018Tigers\u2019 Brigade: \u201cDear friends, Croatian heroes, ‘I u slavi i u krvi Tigrovi su uvijek prvi!\u2019<\/em> [\u2018Both in glory and in blood the Tigers are always first!\u2019].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the Constitutional powers vested in him and in accordance with the Law on Decorations and Recognitions of the Republic of Croatia, and on the proposal of the Decorations and Recognitions Standing Committee of the Republic of Croatia, the President of the Republic of Croatia made the decision to bestow the following decorations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their valour and heroism displayed in the Homeland War, the Order of Duke Domagoj with Ribbon is awarded to Bruno Buli\u0107 (posthumously), Drago Pr\u0161a and \u017deljko To\u0161i\u0107 (posthumously).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their deeds of valour in the Homeland War, the Order of Nikola \u0160ubi\u0107 Zrinski is awarded to Marko Dogan\u010di\u0107, Zoran Gruber (posthumously), Jozo Mili\u0107evi\u0107 and Stevica Pavlini (posthumously).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their extraordinary successful command of units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and for extraordinary military services in the Armed Forces\u2019 organization, the Order of Ban Jela\u010di\u0107 is awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Mihael Pintari\u0107 and Damir \u0160imuni\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For being seriously wounded in the Homeland War, the Order of the Croatian Cross is awarded to \u017deljko Bo\u017ei\u0107, Davorin Fiket, Damir Greguri\u0107, Zdravko Ivanek, Franjo Kantoci, Damir Podvinski, Ivan \u0160tefec and Branko Turek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their extraordinary services to the Republic of Croatia in a state of war, the Order of the Croatian Trefoil is awarded to Nikola Bogojevi\u0107, Ivan Bo\u0161njak, Stanko Butorac (posthumously), Miroslav \u0106uk (posthumously), Stevica Davidovi\u0107 (posthumously), Marijan \u0110uran (posthumously), Damir Grabar, Alen Gr\u0111an, Zlatko Horvat (posthumously), Stjepan Ivanovi\u0107, Predrag Jur\u010dec (posthumously), Mate Juro\u0161 (posthumously), Ivica Kopecki, Marijan Kosi\u0107 (posthumously), Damir Krsnik (posthumously), Dra\u017een Levani\u0107 (posthumously), Du\u0161ko Mali\u0107, Vlado Muraja, Josip Ore\u0161kovi\u0107 (posthumously), Mario \u0160incek and \u017deljko Vinkovi\u0107 (posthumously).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their valour and heroism displayed in the Homeland War, the Order of the Croatian Interlace is awarded to Vladimir Balga\u010d, Mile \u010culina (posthumously), Josip Kne\u017eevi\u0107 (posthumously) and Tihomir Vidmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decorated \u2018Tigers\u2019 Damir \u0160imuni\u0107 and Josip \u0160iri\u0107 delivered speeches on behalf of all those who received decorations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
