President Milanović Announces Support for Esimit Europa Project that Fosters European Cooperation in Sports, Business, Diplomacy and Culture

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received Igor Simčič, head of the Esimit Europa project, which has been promoting for 26 years the European idea of unity by connecting sports, diplomacy, business and culture.

The project has gained global recognition thanks to the many successes of the Esimit Europa 2 sailing yacht, which took part in competitions under the European flag and with an international European crew, spreading the message about the successes of the united Europe. Mr. Simčič acquainted President Milanović with earlier activities and achievements, as well as with the plan to develop a new yacht, Esimit Europa 3, to serve as an ambassador of peace with the support of the United Nations. At the meeting with President Milanović, Mr. Simčič said that regattas can erase borders and symbolize connections between cities, nations and continents, and that the sailing crew from the project symbolizes what Europe can achieve if it works closely together and strives for common goals.

President Milanović joined other European leaders in supporting the Esimit Europa project.

The mayor of the city of Rijeka Marko Filipović and former mayor Vojko Obersnel were also present at the meeting with the President of the Republic because Rijeka has supported the project since its inception. Commissioner of the President of the Republic for Sports Željko Jovanović attended the meeting alongside President Milanović.
