President Milanović, Patron of 24th Ladja Marathon, Receives Race Organizers

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in his Office a delegation of the Neretva River Boatmen Association [Udruga lađara Neretve], which included the President of the Association Luka Oršulić and its members Božo Zadro and Ante Šprlje. The Neretva River Boatmen Association is the organizer of the 24th edition of the traditional Ladja Marathon on the Neretva River that will be held this year under the patronage of the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović.

The heads of the Neretva River Boatmen Association thanked the President of the Republic for his support and patronage and acquainted him with their plans to further popularize and increase international participation in the Ladja Marathon. According to Mr. Oršulić, in the coming years the organizers plan to extend the duration of the event to an entire week and enrich it with additional content, which would significantly boost the tourist offer in the region.

This year, 36 teams from Croatia and abroad will take part in the Ladja Marathon. The competition in the Neretva River valley is an amateur sports race of traditional, autochthonous boats [ladja]. It is held annually on a 22,500-meter route. Oarsmen compete in a race on the Neretva River and its tributaries on the stretch from the town of Metković to the Adriatic port town of Ploče.

Attending the meeting alongside President Milanović were Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic Bartol Šimunić and Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
