The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended in Sinj the official unveiling of the bust of academic sculptor Ante Župić, one of the central figures in the establishment of the Matica hrvatska cultural institution in the town of Sinj in 1970. The bust was unveiled by Jelena Župić, the daughter of academic sculptor Ante Župić.

An association of Zagreb residents originating from Sinj launched the initiative to erect the sculpture of Ante Župić on the occasion of marking the 50th anniversary of Matica hrvatska and the Croatian Spring movement, which received the approval of the Sinj Town Council.

In his address at the unveiling ceremony, President Milanović extended his greetings to the residents of Sinj and everyone present, emphasizing that the Sinj area is very dear to him and that he eagerly looked forward to being there today.

“I heard about Ante Župić from my father a couple of times, but that was a long time ago. I will not talk here about the work and opus of professor Ante Župić, because I actually know very little about it and only since recently. Ante Župić was a typical creation of this area. I suppose that professor Ante Župić had to work hard and earn everything in life, like his children. This town and this frontier have added flavour to my entire life since childhood. The Sinj area is objectively different. You have, we have something to be proud of,” said President Milanović, thanking everyone for the warm, heartfelt welcome he received by the people of Sinj.

Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković were at the unveiling ceremony alongside President Milanović.
