President Milanović in Jelsa: Your Community Is Developing Well and in Harmony
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended the formal session of the Municipal Council of Jelsa on the occasion of Municipal Day held on St. John’s Square in Jelsa.
In his address President Milanović told the residents of Jelsa that they are developing their community well and in harmony. He added that every society and politics must start from the people’s undisturbed right and possibility to organize and unite into anything that is not subversive or destructive. “This is where politics begin. The state is quite present and without such presence we won’t be successful. This is in the first place the Croatian state we owe loyalty to, it is our national, civic state. It has its territory, borders, open, human, airy, it has its traditions, its history, its prejudices”, President Milanović stated.
“Support to everyone who is fighting for such a status of Croatia in Europe because the European Union is not what it was envisioned to be many years ago, but it’s a good thing. In this world we are fighting for our interest, and whoever is doing that in Jelsa, in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, is doing it well”, President Milanović said, emphasizing that the residents of the island of Hvar are fighting for a clean island. “You have a problem with waste disposal, it’s not easy to organize. It requires joint action, and this joint action must start here, and the state is here to help”, the President noted.
The President also referred to the coronavirus pandemic and Health Minister Vili Beroš’s speech, who addressed the formal session of the Municipal Council ahead of him. The President remarked that we have been living in abnormal circumstances for a year already, on the brink of encroaching upon human liberties, which require firm, clear justifications understandable to everyone. “For now we are holding on and what I see as being the most endangered is people’s mental health. This will pass. I support the Minister and I support every reasonable and persistent policy whose goal is good. So, get vaccinated and most of the problems will be solved”, President Milanović said.
He added that prejudices were not smart, those about science or something based on proof, research and the trial and error method in which success was guaranteed and errors were minor or reduced to a statistical minimum. “What has been developed in the past year and a half is one of the greatest triumphs in the history of human knowledge, human organization and synergy. It’s an example of synergy, intelligence and money in a short time. Let’s get vaccinated!”, President Milanović said at the formal session marking Jelsa Municipal Day.
