President Milanović Attends Ceremony Marking 50th Croatian Spring Anniversary
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended the central ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the Croatian Spring, which was organized by the Croatian national institution Matica hrvatska. The anniversary was marked last night by the Nikola Šubić Zrinjski opera performance at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
Prior to the Croatian Spring anniversary ceremony, President Milanović told reporters that today, fifty years after the Croatian Spring movement, Croatia is “a complete, defended, consolidated country.”
“It is good, not perfect, it has flaws. It’s a different time, a better time, although people expect more. That was a time of both growth and upturn, but also of misunderstanding. The Croatian Spring was composed of the then communist authorities and Matica hrvatska, which is organizing this today, and the students as the third important factor. They were not coordinated, they were not harmonized, they were not centrally connected, they were spontaneous and that is why the enemy, unfortunately, harmed them,” President Milanović said prior to the ceremony.
Attending the 50th Croatian Spring anniversary ceremony alongside President Milanović was Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
