President Milanović Meets with Croatian Debate Society and Winners of World Universities Debating Championship
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received a delegation of the Croatian Debate Society including the winners of the 14th World Universities Debating Championship, members of the Zagreb Student Debate Forum Lovro Šrem and Tin Puljić, the first winning team in the history of the competition outside of the English-speaking area.
Besides the winners of the 2021 World Universities Debating Championship, attending the meeting with President Milanović were the president of the Croatian Debate Society and executive director of the International Debate Education Association IDEA Bojan Marjanović, the executive director of the Croatian Debate Society Gorana Jurišić, the leader of the debate programme Darija Jeger, and the coaches of the national debating teams Eta Krpanec and Luka Petrović.
The Croatian Debate Society is the successful organizer of numerous international events with participants from all across the world. At the meeting with President Milanović, the Association representatives thanked him for his patronage over the international conference of debating associations, which they had organized from 28 August to 3 September with the support of the European Commission’s programme “Europe for Citizens”, which included 60 participants from 25 countries.
In their discussion with the President of the Republic, they presented their work and past achievements, and as their most important activities, the representatives of the Croatian Debate Society highlighted coordination of the network of elementary and secondary school debating clubs in whose programmes more than 1,500 pupils participate on a regular basis. Through the work of the clubs, the pupils develop tolerance, advocating skills and are encouraged to enhance personal and social responsibility, and become active.
Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žaković.
