The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in his Office a delegation of the 6th Congress of Croatian Historians, which was held from the 29th of September until the 2nd of October 2021 in Rijeka under the patronage of the President of the Republic.

Culture was the main topic of the congress, since Rijeka was the European Capital of Culture in 2020. The congress was organized by the Croatian National Committee for Historical Sciences, the Croatian Historical Society from Zagreb and the Department of History of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Rijeka, with the participation of several other co-organizers from Rijeka and Krk Island. The congress was attended by more than two hundred Croatian historians and a number of foreign researchers of Croatian history. The presentations at the congress were attended by more than a hundred history teachers from primary and secondary schools across Croatia.

Although Croatian historians mostly research political history, issues of crises and wars, national identity and the history of Croatian statehood, the congress participants emphasized that there are still many historians who are ready to respond to calls stemming from the need for researching culture and cultural-historical issues.
