President of the Republic Attends Observance of 30th Anniversary of Vukovar Tragedy

The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended the observance of the 30th anniversary of the Vukovar tragedy “Day of Remembrance of the Sacrifice of Vukovar 1991-2021“ (Dan sjećanja na žrtvu Vukovara 1991.- 2021.“, which began with the programme “Vukovar – Special Place of Homeland Reverence” (Vukovar – mjesto posebnog domovinskog pijeteta).

After the special programme held in front of the National Memorial Vukovar Hospital, President Milanović and all the participants, led by the Vukovar defenders and family members of the fallen, killed and missing Vukovar defenders, walked in a Memorial procession on the streets of Vukovar up to the Croatian Homeland War Defenders Memorial Cemetery.

At a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Memorial in the Croatian Homeland War Defenders Memorial Cemetery, President Milanović paid tribute to the killed and missing persons in the defence of Vukovar. Alongside the President were the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Siniša Jurković, Major General Tihomir Kundid, Brigadier General Željko Živanović, Brigadier General Senad Fejzić, Commodore Milan Žunić, Brigadier General Mijo Validžić, Brigadier General Željko Ljubas, Special Adviser to the President for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković and Adviser to the President for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony in the Croatian Homeland War Defenders Memorial Cemetery, the President of the Republic laid a wreath in front of the Memorial at the mass grave at Ovčara.
