President Milanović Receives Delegation of Marathoner Association “Heroji ne umiru“
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in his office today a delegation of the Marathoner Association of Sisak-Moslavina County “Heroji ne umiru” (Heroes Never Die). Through its activities the Association assembles amateur runners, and promotes the values of the Homeland War and sports as a healthy way of life.
The Sisak-Moslavina County Marathoner Association “Heroji ne umiru” was founded in 2017 and has a membership of 150 from the Republic of Croatia and neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina. They organize about 40 marathons yearly.
The Associations’ representatives noted that by means of marathons they commemorate key events from the Homeland War with the goal that they never be forgotten and at the same time promote sports as a healthy way of life. They held a number of memorial runs and, besides observing significant anniversaries of operations “Bljesak“ (Flash), “Oluja“ (Storm), “Maslenica“ and “Škabrnja“, they held a run in memory of the firefighters who perished on Kornati islands. This year they also organized the first memorial run of international character, which was held on 20 November from Novi Travnik to Vitez. It included memorials in Novi Travnik, Bučići, Nević Polje, Prahulje, Grgino Polje, Nova Bila, Jadrol, war hospital, Križančevo Selo and Vitez. They further announced today a plan to hold a memorial run for Korita, near Novska, as well as a new project for shooting a documentary.
At the meeting with President Milanović were Association president Igor Vuković, Board of Directors president Danijel Tomac, member Alen Čaušević and honorary member Duško Štrbac. Alongside President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
