The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today at the Office of the President with Chief Firefighting Commander Slavko Tucaković.

The Chief Firefighting Commander informed President Milanović about firefighter readiness for the upcoming firefighting season and about the activities that have been undertaken thus far to ensure that firefighters across Croatia are ready to respond to wildfires in advance of the summer months, during which the majority of fires occur. According to the Chief Firefighting Commander, more wildfires have already been recorded in the first three months of this year than in the same period last year. He warned that firefighters will be facing a tough firefighting season because of dry weather.

Also discussed at the meeting was the new organisational structure of the firefighting system in Croatia, which now operates under the auspices of the State Fire Protection Office, which Mr. Tucaković said was a good solution.

Attending the meeting alongside President Milanović were Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defence and National Security Dragan Lozančić and Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
