The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited the Tehnomont Shipyard today in Pula, where he held a working meeting with company management and toured the shipyard’s production line.

At the meeting, representatives of the managing board, the President of the Tehnomont Group managing board Gordana Deranja, managing board members Aleksandar Šuran and Sean Lisak, and technical director Niko Scala, presented to President Milanović the operations of Tehnomont Group, including those of Tehnomont Shipyard Pula Ltd., a leading mid-sized Croatian shipyard and maker of aluminium ships. Although the crisis caused by the pandemic affected the market and company operations, today Tehnomont is running a successful business, it was said at the meeting. At the meeting, President Milanović was also informed of the projects that involve building new models of ships with which the company is competing on the global market.

“I am glad that one small private shipyard, which has a turnover of 50 million euros and employs more than 200 people, has survived and continues to function and make money despite all this instability, and without real state aid,” President Milanović said after the meeting. He added that the shipyard cannot build a large ship because no one will financially support that, but what they can do is to have high quality production and invest constantly. “This facility is modest, the equipment is working-class, but the heart and knowledge are great,” President Milanović concluded.

The company Tehnomont Shipyard Pula Ltd. specializes in the development of sophisticated aluminium and steel ships. It is mostly oriented towards building patrol, tourist, offshore, fishing, fire and other ships for the global market. Apart from shipbuilding, the company is also focused on repairing and reconstructing ships.

After the meeting, President Milanović toured the production line of the shipyard. Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić and Assistant Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy Martina Ciglević were alongside President Milanović.
