President Milanović Meets with Livno Community Zagreb Delegation
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today at the Office of the President a delegation of Livno Community Zagreb, an association of citizens and businesspeople that brings together individuals originating from the town of Livno, as well as friends of Livno, while also serving to protect and promote the historical, cultural, economic and environmental values of the Livno region.
The Livno Community Zagreb delegation informed President Milanović at the meeting about the group’s beginnings, when its activities were limited and inhibited by the war in Croatia and subsequently Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was, namely, reflected in the formation of the Volunteer Independent Battalion for the defence of Livno in 1992, when Livno Community Zagreb provided logistical support and assistance to Homeland War victims. After the war, the focus of the association’s work shifted towards cultural activities and protecting traditional and historical values of the Livno region, and efforts aimed at creating foundations for the economic development of the Livno region, it was said at the meeting.
At the meeting with President Milanović, the current political and economic position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina was also discussed, with emphasis put on the need to protect the rights of BiH Croats as a constituent people. Representatives of Livno Community Zagreb were interested in learning what Croatia can do to help BiH Croats achieve their rights, which would make it easier for them to stay in the country. President Milanović acquainted the delegation with his views and efforts advocating the rights of the Croatian people in BiH.
The meeting in the Office of the President was attended by the President of the Livno Community Zagreb Stjepan Franić, Vice President Bože Mihaljević, manager of the Livno minifootball league Marin Lozančić and Vice Presidents of the Livno Student Club Iva Ištuk and Ivan Čelar.
Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić was alongside President Milanović.
