The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in the Office of the President today representatives of the Town of Sinj and its orchestra on the occasion of the 160th anniversary and continuous work of the “Gradska glazba Sinj” orchestra. The President of the Republic is also the patron of the anniversary celebration of the foundation and activities of the Sinj orchestra.

The Mayor of Sinj Miro Bulj and representatives of Sinj’s orchestra: president Petar Pavlović, vice-president Damir Vučković, Management Board member Anđela Paštar Krnčević, and the president of the Club of Sinj Citizens in Zagreb (Klub Sinjana u Zagrebu) Davor Varenina underlined that the orchestra is one of the oldest cultural societies in Sinj. With its longstanding work the orchestra has played a major role in developing and promoting music culture, and by assembling a large number of school-aged youngsters it has played a significant role in their upbringing.

Today no important event or celebration can be imagined from Sinj’s past and present history without its orchestra, and especially not the “Sinjska alka” knights’ tournament. It was stressed that it would be quite difficult to imagine Sinj without its orchestra because it has become a major part of everyday life.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the “Gradska glazba Sinj” orchestra, a concert will be held next month in Zagreb’s Zrinjevac park in the organization of the “Klub Sinjana u Zagrebu” with the support of the City of Zagreb and the Town of Sinj as well as Tourist Boards of Zagreb and Sinj. They added that it will be just one of many performances they will hold during this jubilee year.

Alongside President Milanović at the meeting was the Adviser to the President for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
