President Milanović Attends Presentation of “Urboglyphs – Urboteka” Project
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended in Zagreb today a presentation of an audio-visual installation “Urboglyphs – Urboteka: 1000 Lumiėre Minutes for Orson Welles“ organized by the Shadow Casters platform (Bacači sjenki).
As part of the project, the residents of Zagreb, especially those of the neighbourhood of Trnje, were invited to record one-minute videos of everyday neighbourhood life – their personal visions of Trnje – as they see, hear and feel it. These short films called “Lumière minutes” were inspired by the early film recordings of the Lumière brothers from 1895 and today represent a powerful form of recording urban life through the authentic and intimate perspectives of residents.
The “Urboglyphs – Urboteka” project is the result of a six-month process that included research activities, public lectures, art workshops and collaborations with numerous experts, artists and cultural institutions. Numerous authors and public figures such as Bojana Burnać, Nikica Gilić, Jadran Boban, Goran Trbuljak, Sandra Uskoković, Boris Cvjetanović and others, as well as students, pupils, teachers and residents of Trnje, are participating in the realization of the project.
Shadow Casters is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary platform from Zagreb, active in the fields of intermedia art, film, performing arts, cultural activism and education. In their projects, they systematically combine artistic creation with social engagement, rethinking the city space as a living archive of collective memory and everyday life.
The project was conceived and coordinated by artist Boris Bakal, and designed by Ivan Klisurić. It is supported by the City of Zagreb through the “Culture and Art in the Community” programme, and is realized in partnership with the Zagreb City Libraries, Pogon – Zagreb Centre for Independent Culture and Youth, State Archives – Croatian Cinemathėque, Open University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Savica Local Committee, Zagreb Film and Jadran Film.
Alongside President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President for Culture Zdravko Zima.
