Message from the President of the Republic on World Press Freedom Day

In these challenging times of crisis we have been going through in recent weeks, we have become particularly convinced of the indisputable importance of prompt, impartial and accurate information provided to the citizens by the media. On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, I want to emphasize that the truth is not and should not be a matter of free interpretation.

I extend my full support to media independence and to the fight against any form of influence on the media because protecting the media and upholding media independence is a cornerstone of stability of the state authorities. That is why – as is the case with all the challenges that lie ahead – we must ensure long-term measures to help the journalism we believe in today survive.
