The President of the Republic visited the University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing on the occasion of Europe Day. In the company of the Faculty’s Dean Prof. Gordan Gledec, PhD, he toured the Laboratory for Renewable Energy Systems (LARES) and the Laboratory for Autonomous Systems and Mobile Robotics (LAMOR). Afterwards, the President of the Republic participated via video link in a meeting with scientists: Prof. Danica Kragić (Sweden), Prof. Bjorn Hein (Germany) and Prof. Asgeir Sorensen (Norway) from the fields of the development of robotics and artificial intelligence.

The President of the Republic stated during his tour: “Today is Europe Day, in some countries also Victory Day, and Europe is indeed what stands behind this and imbues such cooperation. These are good things and good features of Europe. And most of what the European Union and Europe offer us as an idea of cooperation, a common life and open borders is like that. This has somewhat weakened in the past few weeks, but it will be back. Perhaps I am mistaken, but after this, I think that the world and Europe will be more open, since there is no going back, like in science. We have talked about artificial intelligence, most of us understand the basics, but it is all around us and we will have to adopt rules of conduct, protect privacy because science is inexorable and we have to adjust. Every period brings its changes and this is understandable”.

The President referred to job losses due to the coronavirus crisis. “In this crisis many people have lost their jobs, for now in Croatia not to a large extent and I hope that it will remain so”.

Accompanying President MIlanović at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing was his Special Adviser for Energy and Climate Julije Domac, PhD.
