The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović laid a wreath at the Memorial and tomb of the Postwar Victims at the Dobrava cemetery near Maribor. He stated that he did so out of compassion for the victims.

“Some things are absolutely clear, and some things have to be read and studied carefully so that the younger generations are able to understand what actually happened. The fact of the matter is that someone ordered and carried out the execution of at least 15,000 people. These people were executed without a trial, they were prisoners of war that the British side did not want to accept, or was not even able to. This is a scar, an ‘infection’ of the worst kind that will never disappear from the faces and the souls of those who conducted a horrible, but in the end a just and victorious war. The victims are real and no one disputes this fact, however there are some questions in the whole story”, President Milanović said in his statement to the media, adding that ‘with every other sentence I would venture into a very complex territory which I will not enter at present’”.
