President Milanović Attends Presentation of Ivo Goldstein’s Book on Croatia in the Second World War
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended this evening the promotion of the book “Croatia in the Second World War 1941–1945” by Ivo Goldstein, held at the Gavella City Drama Theatre in Zagreb.
The new book by Croatian historian Ivo Goldstein was published by the Fraktura publishing house, and at the promotion the author discussed the book with Fraktura’s editor-in-chief, Seid Serdarević. Through many years of archival research and drawing on existing literature, Ivo Goldstein, in his book “Croatia in the Second World War 1941–1945”, has produced—across nearly 500 pages—the first comprehensive monograph on Croatia during the Second World War, it was said at the event.
Although many authors have so far dealt with the subject and written books about that period of Croatian history, the author emphasized that he approached the Second World War in Croatia differently than had been done before, including in the book both historical facts and episodes that are little known or that, for various reasons, have been previously omitted.
Stressing that he has no partisan obligations and can write factually about everything, Goldstein explained that in the book he begins from what he sees as an indisputable fact: who was on the right side, and who on the wrong side, in the Second World War.
Alongside President Milanović was the President’s Special Adviser for Culture, Zdravko Zima, and also attending the book promotion was former President of the Republic, Stjepan Mesić.
