The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today with a delegation of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia. Attending the meeting at the Office of the President were the President of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia, Mufti Academician Aziz ef. Hasanović, Deputy Mufti Mevludi Arslani, Assistant to the President of the Meshihat for Process Management Nermin Botonjić, and member of the Meshihat Mirza Šabić.

Mufti Hasanović briefed President Milanović on the activities of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia and emphasized its good cooperation with Croatian state institutions. They also discussed the status and rights of citizens of the Muslim faith in Croatia, with representatives of the Meshihat expressing satisfaction with the level of rights achieved, including religious and educational rights.

Speaking about the work of the Meshihat, Mufti Hasanović particularly highlighted the activities of the Center for the Culture of Dialogue, which focuses on integrating foreign workers in Croatia, most of whom are of the Muslim faith. One of the Center’s most important activities, it was noted, is Croatian language instruction, as real integration of people who have come to work in Croatia is not possible without knowledge of the language.

President Milanović and Mufti Hasanović also discussed the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and exchanged views on the status and rights of Croats there. The President reiterated that ensuring the equality of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina is essential for the stability of that neighbouring and friendly country.

President Milanović was accompanied by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Civil Society Melita Mulić and the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy, Neven Pelicarić.
