President Milanović Receives Representatives of Union of Societies “Our Children“ on the Occasion of World Children’s Day
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today representatives of the Union of Societies “Our Children” of Croatia and children from the Union’s Children’s Advisory Board on the occasion of World Children’s Day. World Children’s Day is marked on this day when the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted.
Representatives of the Union of Societies “Our Children” of Croatia, led by Union president Sonja Borovčak, acquainted President Milanović with this largest and oldest umbrella organization for children in Croatia, which unites 108 primary societies in all 19 counties and in the City of Zagreb. The “Our Children” Society has helped improve the lives of numerous generations of children in Croatia, it was said during the meeting, and it was emphasized that around ten thousand children participate in their programmes, with four thousand volunteers working with them.
The Union of Societies “Our Children” was founded 75 years ago and has been continuously caring for children ever since. This anniversary will be celebrated in December under the patronage of the President of the Republic.
Apart from the representatives of the Union of Societies “Our Children”, at the meeting with President Milanović were children – members of the Children’s Advisory Board: Mila Kolarić and Mia Pavlic from Čakovec, Borna Belši and David Vagner from Kutina, Ana Ivančić and Aurora Pavlović Joö from Rovinj, Aristea Tadić and Tara Kukovačec from Sveti Ivan Zelina as well as Jan Biškup and Mateo Quien Brozičević from Velika Gorica.
The members of the Children’s Advisory Board informed President Milanović of their activities related to representing their rights and interests, which they achieve by giving opinions and proposals on documents adopted at the national level, relating to the life and upbringing of children, and advocating for children’s rights and children’s participation.
Also attending the meeting in the Office of the President in addition to the children, members of the Children’s Advisory Board and Union president Sonja Borovčak, were employees of the Union: vice-presidents Arijana Mataga Tintor and Branimir Mendeš; secretary-general Snježana Krpes; members of the Union’s Executive Board Martina Boltužić Dževerlija and Jasenka Borovčak; and Karolina Grgić, Lana Kassim, Manuela Maurović, Marina Žilić as well as local societies of “Our Children“, who are at the same time presidents, mentors/leaders of Children’s councils: Jasna Novaković-Marković, Katarina Pahek, Marija Lenić, Ivana Mitić Rakić and Dia Dobrinčić Korenjak.
Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković.
