President Milanović Meets with Representatives of “Croatian Prosciutto” Cluster
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today representatives of the “Croatian Prosciutto” Cluster, an association that brings together domestic producers of certified and EU-protected Croatian prosciutto – from Krk, Istria, Drniš and Dalmatia.
The representatives of the “Croatian Prosciutto” Cluster presented to the President their activities to preserve the authenticity and provenance of prosciutto, including the event “Days of Croatian Prosciutto”, which was held for the eleventh time this year. It is a professional and educational gathering aimed at promoting the production of indigenous types of Croatian prosciutto. They also discussed the state of the domestic food industry and the conditions and limitations under which producers of protected Croatian prosciutto work. They emphasized the importance of stimulating economic cooperation between pig farming, the slaughterhouse industry and prosciutto production so that the recognizable protected Croatian prosciutto can maintain its place on the domestic and foreign markets.
The “Croatian Prosciutto” Cluster was founded in late 2013 with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Croatian Chamber of Economy and other competent institutions in order to increase competitiveness by joining producers together with a joint appearance on the domestic and European markets. The Cluster today has 24 regular members and two supporting members, which covers about 95 percent of total prosciutto production in Croatia.
Attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic were the Cluster’s Executive Director Ante Madir and members of the Management Board Vlade Prančić, Drago Pletikosa and Melani Hreljak.
Alongside President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President for the Economy Velibor Mačkić.
