President of the Republic Attends Ceremony Marking 26th Anniversary of Establishment of Honorary and Protection Battalion

The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended a ceremony marking the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Honorary and Protection Battalion, which was held in the “1st Croatian Guards Corps” barracks at Tuškanac.

The Honorary and Protection Battalion is a unit associated to the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, responsible to the Chief of the General Staff and responsible for carrying out honorary and ceremonial tasks for the needs of state and military leaders (President of the Republic of Croatia, Government of the Republic of Croatia, Ministry of Defense) as well as tasks of protection and security of the Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces. It was established on 25 February 2000 as a unit attached to the General Staff; before that it operated within the framework of the 1st Croatian Guards Brigade.

On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Honorary and Protection Battalion, the President of the Republic, in accordance with his Constitutional and legal powers, decorated 32 members of the Honorary and Protection Battalion. The Order of the Croatian Trefoil is awarded to Captain Ante Gašpar, Master Sergeant Zijad Čamdžić, Master Sergeant Mijo Šoić and Sergeant First Class Vlado Kitanović.

The Order of the Croatian Interlace is awarded to Major Marjan Žagar, Sergeant Major Vlado Šoljić, Master Sergeant Krešimir Crnčić, Master Sergeant Srećko Košir, Master Sergeant Josip Pokos, Master Sergeant Ivan Raić, Sergeant First Class Robert Rajki and Sergeant First Class Nenad Trglačnik.

The Homeland Gratitude Memorial Medal is awarded to Sergeant Major Krunoslav Posavec, Master Sergeant Krešimir Crnčić, Master Sergeant Zijad Čamdžić, Master Sergeant Elvis Filaković, Master Sergeant Krunoslav Frković, Master Sergeant Dražen Korbar, Master Sergeant Blaško Mudifaj, Master Sergeant Josip Pokos, Master Sergeant Ivan Raić, Master Sergeant Ivan Šiprak, Sergeant First Class Siniša Gračanin, Sergeant First Class Boris Ivezić, Sergeant First Class Vlado Kitanović, Sergeant First Class Siniša Kovač, Staff Sergeant Dragan Klarić, Staff Sergeant Hrvoje Nemčić, civilian staff Boja Puklin, civilian staff Damir Šebelić, civilian staff Miroslav Turčić and civilian staff Tomislav Turčić.

Moreover, he commended a member of the Honorary and Protection Battalion Captain Ivan Petrović for successfully carrying out tasks and achieving above-average results in carrying out assigned tasks.

Attending the ceremony in addition to President Milanović were the Commander of the  Honorary and Protection Battalion Colonel Tihomir Zebec, the Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Croatia Branko Hrg and numerous other guests. The ceremony was enriched by members of the Honorary Company of the Honorary and Protection Battalion, who, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Croatian Armed Forces, performed a display of military acrobatic drills.
