The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today a delegation of the Croatian Psychological Chamber on the occasion of National Psychologists’ Day, which is marked on 14 March, the day when the Croatian Parliament adopted the first Law on Psychological Activities in 2003. The Chamber’s founders are the Croatian Psychological Society and the Ministry of Labour and Social Services.

At the meeting, the Chamber representatives acquainted President Milanović with the activity of this autonomous and independent professional organization that cares for the development, professionalism, ethics, legality and image of psychological activity in Croatia as well as with plans for observing National Psychologists’ Day. Furthermore, they informed him of the increasing number of university studies that offer professional qualifications for carrying out the profession of psychologist, reflecting a greater interest for this profession.

According to the president of the Croatian Psychological Chamber, Andreja Bogdan, there is a positive trend in the hiring of psychologists in educational and healthcare institutions in Croatia, and the number of psychologists in relation to the population is sufficient and in line with European standards. However, a problem is that the majority of psychologists work in Zagreb and other larger cities, which means that the services of psychologists are not equally accessible, especially in smaller communities.

Attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic besides the president of the Croatian Psychological Chamber were members of the Chamber’s Management Board: Mladen Mavar, Ella Selak Bagarić, Gordana Kuterovac Jagodić, Nada Kegalj and Dubravka Svilar Blažinić as well as Chamber secretary Antun Pretković.

Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Education, Jadranka Žarković.
