President Milanović Receives Author Milana Vuković Runjić
The President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović today received Croatian author Milana Vuković Runjić on the occasion of the presentation of her book on Petar Zoranić, the author of the first Croatian novel, entitled “Priče iz Planina Petra Zoranića” [“Stories from The Mountains by Petar Zoranić”].
“Priče iz Planina Petra Zoranića” [“Stories from The Mountains by Petar Zoranić”] was written to make Petar Zoranić’s 16th century novel, the first Croatian novel, more accessible to a wider readership. Seeking to overcome the novel’s perceived “impenetrability” – a challenge once noted by the renown Croatian author Vladimir Nazor – and to revive this landmark work of Croatian cultural heritage, Milana Vuković Runjić reimagined the original text as a series of more accessible stories, complemented by richly illustrated artwork by the acclaimed Croatian illustrator Vendi Vernić.
Milana Vuković Runjić is a Croatian author and editor. She is the author of numerous books of poetry, novels, short story collections, and essay collections. She also publishes essays and columns in Croatian and international newspapers and magazines, including the Slovenian Delo, the Italian Internazionale, and the American The Believer.
President Milanović was accompanied at the meeting by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Culture Zdravko Zima.
