President Milanović receives Delegation from Rijeka Technical Culture Community Marking its 80th Anniversary
The President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, today received a delegation from the Rijeka Technical Culture Community, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. The Rijeka Technical Culture Community operates as an umbrella organisation bringing together 57 associations in the city of Rijeka, with approximately 3,000 members spread across 12 different branches of technical culture.
The representatives of the Community, led by their President Igor Majkić, acquainted President Milanović with the broad spectre of activities, including robotics, informatics, model building, astronomy, photography, movie theatre and videography activities, electrical engineering, underwater activities, traffic culture, technical activities at sea and on water, as well as innovation.
At the meeting, it was pointed out that during its 80 years of existence, despite rapid technological changes; the Community’s core mission had remained unchanged: the development of technical literacy and active inclusion of children and youth into the world of modern technologies through practical work and creation. In recent times, the focus has shifted to developing programmes related to the STEM field, robotics, 3D printing and digital technologies, the representatives of the Community added. Alongside its educational role, the Community holds a key position in connecting specialized associations and providing support in the implementation of their programmes and activities, it was stated at the meeting.
Discussing the funding of their activities, they noted that the Community is continuously supported by the City of Rijeka, while also securing grants from European Union funds through project-based financing.
For its long-standing contribution to the development of technical culture and education of generations of young people from Rijeka, and on the occasion of its 80th anniversary, the City of Rijeka also awarded the Rijeka Technical Culture Community a special recognition this year – the Gold Plaque “Coat of Arms of the City of Rijeka.”
During the conversation, they pointed out the activities of technical culture communities would be easier and more efficient if a new Law on Technical Culture were to be enacted. Specifically, the existing law was adopted in 1993 and, they claim, does not follow the development of technical culture, thereby restricting the work of associations engaged in these activities.
The delegation of the Rijeka Technical Culture Community included President Igor Majkić, Vice-President Đordano Bucci, professional secretary of the Rijeka Technical Culture Community Tihana Kalčić, financial and accounting officer Jasminka Ujčić, business secretary Jadranka Krišković, senior adviser and coordinator for technical culture programmes of the City of Rijeka Eugenija Perić, as well as the president of the “Krila Kvarnera” Aviation Society, Darko Elezović, and the president of the “Krila Kvarnera” Sailing Club, Marko Herak.
President Milanović was accompanied by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka Žarković.
