President Milanović Receives Delegation from Sinj People’s Theatre, Which is Celebrating 70 Years of Continuous Operation
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received on Wednesday a delegation from the Sinj People’s Theatre, which is celebrating 70 years of continuous operation this year. Founded in 1956 with the aim of establishing an artistic institution that would bring together the best amateur actors from Sinj and the surrounding area, the Sinj People’s Theatre continues to operate as an amateur theatre dedicated to preserving and promoting the theatrical culture and heritage of the Cetina region.
“Today, the Sinj People’s Theatre has more than 70 active members divided into three groups: a children’s drama studio, a youth drama studio and a group of more experienced actors. Each year, the theatre stages five or six new productions,” said Željko Viculin, President of the Sinj People’s Theatre Association, who informed President Milanović about the anniversary celebrations and the theatre’s overall activities.
Over the course of its history, the Sinj People’s Theatre has given more than 1,200 performances. The delegation highlighted folk comedies depicting life in Sinj and Dalmatia as a particularly important part of the theatre’s repertoire, including one of its best-known productions, the cult classic “Dujo Manzan i Mate Manistra.” The theatre also stages dramatic and educational productions and offers programmes for children and young people.
In addition to Željko Viculin, the meeting at the Office of the President of the Republic was attended by the Association’s Vice President Zoran Šabić and Management Board members Dinko Franchini and Nikša Katić. The President’s Special Adviser for Culture Zdravko Zima joined the meeting alongside President Milanović.
