President Milanović Meets with Representatives of Croats from Republic of Serbia
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received a delegation of the “Hrvatsko nacionalno vijeće u Republici Srbiji (Croatian National Council in the Republic of Serbia HNV), its president Jasna Vojnić, the vice-president of the “Hrvatsko nacionalno vijeće za Suboticu” (Croatian National Council for Subotica) Ladislava Suknović and the president of the “Demokratski savez Hrvata u Vojvodini” (Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina DSHV) Tomislav Žigmanov.
The delegation of the HNV and the DSHV acquainted President Milanović with their past and present activities in protecting and promoting the rights of Croats in the Republic of Serbia as well as with the conditions in which they work and the issues they have to they deal with.
President Milanović endorsed their work and told the delegation he expects that the standards that the Republic of Croatia implements in the protection and promotion of the rights of national minorities in the Republic of Croatia will be implemented equally in the protection and promotion of the Croatian national minority in the Republic of Serbia. President Milanović expressed his willingness to visit the Croats who live in the Republic of Serbia and thereby confirm the Republic of Croatia’s care for the Croatian community in the neighbouring state. In his discussion with the delegation of the HNV and the DSHV, the President of the Republic reminded that respect for the rights and the protection of national minorities has been and will remain a major criterion for the Republic of Serbia’s accession to the European Union.
