At the meeting with the President of the Republic, representatives of the national road traffic safety association “Sigurnost u prometu” presented their activities to President Zoran Milanović. They emphasized that the national association is a not-for-profit organization with the responsibilities of monitoring, investigating and enhancing road traffic safety by improving the safety culture and by sensitizing the public and public authorities to road traffic safety, the scope and consequences of road traffic accidents.

The National Road Safety Programme (2011-2020), which the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for implementing, was among the topics discussed at the meeting. The Programme aims to reduce the number of deaths in traffic accidents by 50 percent compared to 2010. Representatives of the association expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that road traffic safety is the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior and because steps towards establishing a Road Traffic Safety Agency have not yet been taken.

They thanked the President of the Republic for accepting patronage of the ceremony marking World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which, in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution from 1995, is marked on the third Sunday in November.

The national road traffic safety association “Sigurnost u prometu” was established in 2009 and its first President was the late Mr. Boris Šprem. The association named after him the awards that it gives out every year to legal entities and private individuals for their achievements in the field of road traffic safety.

Participating in the meeting with the President of the Republic were the following people: President of the association “Sigurnost u prometu” Professor Petar Rakamarić, Ph. D., Secretary Georg-Davor Lisicin and Administrative Board member Milan Pajnić.
