President Milanović Receives Delegation of Martijanec Volunteer Fire Department on the Occasion of its 125th Anniversary
The President of the Republic has received a delegation of the Martijanec Volunteer Firefighting Department on the occasion of its 125th anniversary. President Zoran Milanović, who is patron of the celebration, congratulated all the members of the Fire Department on their jubilee.
Martijanec VFD president Saša Lenček acquainted the President with the department’s activities within the volunteer firefighting system that boasts of a long and rich tradition in Croatia, transferred from generation to generation not just as a statement of personal commitment and solidarity in promoting fire protection and protection from other natural disasters but also as an expression of local culture.
The VFD has 150 members of all ages with a growing trend. They said that they are very proud of the women that make up more than 40% of its operational membership. They boasted of having excellent cooperation with all associations and fire departments in the Municipality of Martijanec and throughout Croatia. They have sister departments in Slovenia and have friendly relations with fire departments in the Czech Republic and Serbia.
The VFD has preserved its 125 year-old flag and on the occasion of their jubilee they plan to donate it to the Croatian Firefighting Museum in Varaždin for safekeeping and display, while they would use its replica in their Volunteer Firefighting Department.
Present at the meeting with President Milanović alongside Martijanec VFD president Saša Lenček were the chief of Martijanec VFD Tihana Huzjak, secretary Patricija Balaić, assistant chiefs Krunoslav Zrinski and Tomica Bačani as well as management board members of Martijanec VFD Zvonimir Sučić, Dragutin Šantavec, Drago Tarandek and Melita Bačani.
Attending the meeting with the President of the Republic were the Head of Cabinet of the President of the Republic Bartol Šimunić and the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
