Draft Defence Strategy and Long-Term Development Plan for Croatian Armed Forces Adopted by Defence Council

A session of the Defence Council was held on Friday, 23 May 2025, in the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia. Strategic documents in the field of defence were reviewed and conclusions and proposals in this field were made at the session:

–           The draft Defence Strategy of the Republic of Croatia was adopted and a proposal was made to submit the draft into the legally prescribed adoption procedure;  

–           The draft Long-Term Development Plan for the Croatian Armed Forces for the period 2025-2036 was adopted and a proposal was made to submit the draft into the legally prescribed adoption procedure.

In accordance with the Defence Act, the session of the Defence Council was jointly convened by the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. All members of the Defence Council attended the session: the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović, Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anušić, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Marko Primorac, the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, the Chair of the parliamentary Defence Committee Arsen Bauk, and the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defence Ivica Olujić.

The Defence Council coordinates the bodies of state authority to harmonise positions and adopt conclusions and recommendations in the field of defence.
