Head of the Office of the President Receives U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Delegation

The Head of the Office of the President of the Republic Orsat Miljenić held a meeting today with a delegation of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress headed by Rep. Adam Smith, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

At the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic, satisfaction was expressed with the friendly relations between the two countries, the Republic of Croatia and the United States of America, who are also NATO allies. It was emphasized that Croatia attaches great importance to defense cooperation with the United States and that it appreciates American support in the further development of the Croatian Armed Forces.

The security situation in Europe’s eastern flank was discussed during the meeting, particularly in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and concern was expressed over the possible serious consequences of this crisis. The interlocutors exchanged views on the situation in Southeast Europe, energy and global challenges.

Apart from the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, the Congressional delegation was composed of Rep. Doug Lamborn from Colorado, Rep. Jim Cooper from Tennessee, Rep. Ed Perlmutter from Colorado, Rep. Veronica Escobar from Texas, Rep. Mike Johnson from Louisiana, House Armed Services Committee Majority Staff Director Brian Garrett, House Armed Services Committee Minority Staff Director Christopher Vieson, House Armed Services Committee Majority Policy Director Phil MacNaughton, U.S. Embassy Zagreb staff Chargé d’Affaires Mark Fleming, Defense Attaché Matt Denny, Regional Affairs Office Head Ariela Borgia, military escort Alex Wray and Political and Economic Head Amy Lillis.

Accompanying the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic at the meeting were Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defense and National Security Dragan Lozančić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, Head of the Military Office of the Cabinet for Defense and National Security Rear Admiral Predrag Stipanović and Secretary of the Cabinet for Foreign and European Policy Ivan Mutavdžić.
