The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today in his Office with a delegation of the “Plant a tree, don’t be a stump!” Environmental and Nature Protection Association. The delegation members presented to President Milanović the national tree-planting campaign in the Republic of Croatia.

The national tree-planting campaign is conducted every year in November at the local, regional and national level in Croatia, the representatives of the Association said, pointing out that thus far 55 thousand participants have planted over 150 thousand trees and other plants nationwide. Speaking about the goals of the campaign, they said that in addition to raising citizens’ awareness about combating climate change, they wish to give them the chance to contribute to reducing global warming by planting trees and storing carbon. They also seek to support the revitalization of urban green areas, for which there is interest at the local level.

At their meeting with President Milanović, the delegation of the “Plant a tree, don’t be a stump!” Association informed President Milanović about its wok, explaining that the group started its work as a civic initiative in 2019, based on the notion that anyone can plant a tree and thus contribute to combating climate change. They mentioned that the alliance has been registered as an environmental protection association since 2020. We wish to contribute to the protection of the environment and to creating the right attitude in view of the effects of human activities that harm the environment and forests, the delegation said.
