The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited the city of Varaždin today, where he toured the production facilities of the Varteks company, as well as Varteks and VarteksPRO (specializing in military outfits) showrooms. The President held a working meeting with Varteks management and afterwards with Varaždin mayor Neven Bosilj and Varaždin County prefect Anđelko Stričak.

In his statement to the media, President Milanović said that the reason for his visit to Varaždin was above all Varteks, a company which is one of the few remaining success stories of the textile industry in Croatia. The President expressed hope that this would remain so.

“The Government has included them on the list of strategic, priority projects. That is good because this kind of production, especially the more ambitious profit-making textile industry, simply cannot do without state aid, authorities and policies, and needs support,” President Milanović told the press.

“I have been to Varaždin many times and I hope to come on the 30th anniversary of the liberation of the city, which took place on September 22, 1991. This is an important date in the military history of Croatia. A major part of the enemy’s equipment was seized and this subsequently had a considerable influence on the liberating operations of the Croatian Army. I discussed this with the county prefect,” the President of the Republic said in his statement to the media.

Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy Velibor Mačkić joined President Milanović on his visit to the city of Varaždin.
