Prior to his departure for the NATO Summit in Brussels that is being held on the 14th of May, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović told members of the press that the draft of the closing declaration would not be acceptable to the Republic of Croatia because some NATO countries do not want it to mention the Dayton peace agreement and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constituent peoples.

“We are still negotiating the closing declaration of NATO. I wanted the help of Minister Grlić Radman and the HDZ in that, but I have to do it alone. Some states do not want the declaration to mention the Dayton agreement and the constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have this problem and I will have to talk about it at the Summit, otherwise we will not consent to the declaration because we are being treated as unimportant,” the President underscored.

“Somebody has a problem with the closing declaration of NATO mentioning the Dayton agreement and the three constituent peoples. It is as if the declaration was written by an NGO from Sarajevo. I do not intend to return to Zagreb with that,” the President reiterated, adding that Prime Minister Plenković and Foreign Minister Radman could have helped him with that, “but they have more important business.” “It only shows what kind of plans for Bosnia and Herzegovina some international circles have and Croatia will not agree to that,” the President said prior to his departure for the NATO Summit in Brussels.
