The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended a swearing-in ceremony of the 32nd generation of soldiers enrolled in voluntary military training at the “123rd HV Brigade” Barracks in Požega.

A total of 234 female and male soldiers enrolled in voluntary military training were sworn in at the ceremony in Požega, whom the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces congratulated on having taken the oath, emphasizing that it is important, deep in terms of content and that it obliges the soldiers.

He told them that they had chosen a calling that was different from all others. “Thirty years ago, my peers, who are today people of a certain age, defended Croatia and very few of them did that. Most of us, most of my generation were not among them, we were in relative safety. The small number of people who exposed themselves to danger then for Croatia, who postponed a better future for themselves, setting off for Europe, better work – these are the people to whom we owe eternal gratitude. That is the spirit of the heart of the culture of our people, our nation, all of us, and we must not forget them,” President Milanović told the soldiers in his address at the ceremony.

“You are here to prevent, through your work and readiness, what they had to deal with in 1991 from ever happening again. It was a dreadful, glorious time for Croatia. May it not happen again,” the President of the Republic concluded.

Attending the swearing-in ceremony alongside President Milanović were Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defense and National Security Dragan Lozančić and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
