President Milanović calls for decision on President of Supreme Court to be made: A candidate has been proposed, let us not delay it any longer
“This is procrastination. Once again one does not want to accept the fact that the Constitution is crystal clear. Let them agree once and for all, there is no sense in waiting any further. By procrastinating, those who make up the majority are demonstrating that they are excessively politicizing the issue. Let us no longer delay the process. This illustrates everything I said, namely that the Constitution should have been left alone, as it had been for the last twenty years”, President Milanović commented to the press on the election of the new president of the Supreme Court after the special ceremony of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Teacher Education.
“The election of the president has some political substratum, since it is adopted by Parliament, but this is like some fateful manifesto being adopted. A proposal has been made for one individual, it has been discussed, my feeling is that the impression is good”, he added referring to judge Radovan Dobronić whom he will propose to the Croatian Parliament as he has announced several times.
Asked about his opinion on the protests in front of hospitals against the introduction of COVID certificates for medical staff, President Milanović said that they were expected, however, the protests aren’t massive. “Today I entered a room where everyone was wearing masks. Why are they wearing masks? Because they are vaccinated. Those who aren’t vaccinated – don’t have to come. It is incredible how obedient people can be in situations when they should not be”, President Milanović said. Asked if he is for repealing the COVID certificates, he answered: “From the very first day I did not want to analyse or criticise individual epidemiological measures, or rather “measures for daily politicking. After the vaccine was available, I said that when there will be more doses than people interested in getting vaccinated, bans wouldn’t make any sense, and COVID certificates are a ban”, he explained.
President Milanović was asked by the press to comment on the statement of the Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić who couldn’t believe his remark about him also being the president of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina who have Croatian citizenship, and wondered why the EU didn’t react. “I don’t listen to her statements or of any other hero of the evil times in Serbia. The only person speaking is the president of Serbia, all others are his mouthpieces. It makes no sense to engage in debates with them. “We are the European Union, they are not. If they continue behaving this way, it is a question when they will be,” President Milanović said.
Commenting on the latest management replacements in the Zagreb Holding company, he says he has a huge degree of tolerance for that, but that he has great expectations for Zagreb. “My expectations are great because I see some city companies that are not operating well, but I am quite aware of the traps that were left behind. The man has to work in the City of Zagreb with the people who were installed there by Bandić. He still has to cooperate in some cynical manifesto. The public tender is still open and every Tom, Dick, and Harry has a grievance. And what if there was no public tender, and he hired his relatives. He dismissed these individuals, I quite understand this for now, I was in a similar situation, this is worse”, President Milanović noted, and said “let the man and his team do their job, now they are still bound hand and foot by the situation”.
He briefly also commented on the procurement of fighter jets, and the expected signing of the contracts. “It is time for the contracts to be signed, I have confidence in the negotiators, and hope they will be ‘tough’ and will negotiate further advantages”, he said, and confirmed that he expects French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Croatia since we purchased their aircraft.
